Honey - The sweet medicine of Ayurveda

Honey (madhu)according to ayurvedic scriptures is one of the most important medicines that are used in ayurveda. Honey is used both internally and externally.

It is used for the treatment of multiple diseases and issues like eye diseases, cough, thirst, phlegm, hiccups, blood in vomit, leprosy, diabetes, obesity, worm infestation, vomiting, asthma, diarrhoea and healing wounds. It is used as a natural sweetener in many  ayurvedic preparations of medicine and food. Properties of honey also make it an excellent natural preservative.

Fresh honey can increase body mass while old kept honey can produce constipation and decrease body mass.

Even though it's very common for people to consume honey with warm water or tea, ayurveda advises that honey should not be consumed heated or warm as it can have a toxic effect on one's body and can act as a slow poison. All packaged honey available in the market are heated at extreme temperatures to be viable for a longer time. Honey should be consumed raw that we get directly from vendors who extract their own honey.

If consumed the right way honey has multiple benefits and it sure tastes delicious!
