Kartika Month : Lord Krishna's Dearest Month

Kartika mas(month) of Hindu calendar started on 21st October this month and will go on till 19th November. This month is considered the holiest and auspicious out of all other Hindu months.Lord Krishna says, “of all plants, the sacred Tulsi is the most dear to me, of all months, Kartik is most dear to me” (Padma Purna, 112.3 )Kartik month is exceptionally special for Lord Krishna as this month epitomizes Goddess Radha, dearest of Lord Krishna.In Bhagavad Gita, holy scripture, Lord Krishna says “of months I am Margashirsha (November-December). Kartik month (October-November) represents Goddess Radha ''.If we truly please Goddess Radha during this month, we can also please Lord Krishna. Thus, it is believed, if one offers a lamp(Diya) to Lord Krishna or Goddess Radha, his/her sins can be perished.This month is a great time to awaken the soul with meditation and celebrations. This month observes many fasts and festivals, to discard all the bad deeds and start a pure life.It is believed that during this month, rays of Sun and Moon have a very positive effect on the body and mind as well. Therefore, the full moon day of this month is celebrated as Dev Diwali, especially in Varanasi and is known as Kartik Purnima.Some festivals that we will observe during this month are Ahoi Ashtami, Naraka Chaturdashi, Lakshmi Puja, Govardhan Puja, Tulsi Vivah, Chhath puja, Dhanteras, Diwali, Jain Tirthankara- Mahavira, Guru Nanak Jayanti and Bhai dooj.
