Dear yoga enthusiasts, we all know the importance of Gandhi Ji’s contribution to this country.

While his freedom efforts are relatively widely known, the less known are his efforts and persuasion of yogic practices. He was a regular yoga practitioner in kriya yoga style.  

Kriya yoga can only be initiated by a master and needs a physical and mental cleansing ritual done before the initiation.  Kriya yoga is a practice which speeds up the path to a spiritual journey, it helps you connect to god in a higher realm. It is a very secret practice which is still intact with its tradition and is not known widely.


Gandhi ji initiated his practice of kriya yoga with the help of Paramhansa Yogananda, in later years of his life but he was a true yogi even before the practice of yoga. 

He believed in ahimsa/love, truth, Brahma Acharya/chastity, non-stealing, control of the palate, non-possession, removal of untouchability, fearlessness, tolerance, humility, equality in religions. As we can see the first six itself consists of the yamasexpliciltly. These vows of Gandhi ji make a striking resemblance to the yogic qualities.
