Oftentimes, we experience that when gayatri mantra or OM is chanted repeatedly, a crying child regains its calmness and happiness. But if chanting works from an early age, is it possible that it works even when the child is still in the womb of the mother?
Can chanting of powerful mantras such as OM and gayatri mantra during pregnancy lead to a happier and calmer child being born?
It has been scientifically proven that when pregnant a mother’s hormones can significantly affect the fetus. Such as if the mother stresses out and produces stress hormones, the same stress hormones can be produced by a child.
A fetus’s ears are completely functional by the 16th week of pregnancy and when chanting Om or gayatri mantra, they can hear the sound most definitely. Further, he/she can also feel the positive energy that the mom is feeling while chanting mantras.
Let's shift our focus to the mom and the fact that “what affects the mother also affects the child, even if it is in the womb”, so if chanting any mantra helps soothe the mom and make her calmer, the baby also feels calmer. And when listening to a sound that makes the baby calmer, he/she might grow up thinking of it as a comfortable sound which can help the child even after being born.
