Revalsar Sunday Stories, edition 35 with Dr Avantika
I am Dr Avantika Thakur (BAMS, MD). Founder @stayayurvedic
My journey with Ayurveda started way before I took admission for BAMS when I lived in a small village Bir (H.P.), with my grandparents. Living in a village allowed me to acknowledge the value of a healthy lifestyle. Drinking cow's fresh milk and eating homegrown vegetables, fruits, and grains made me value a healthy living.
Apart from this, my granny was little aware of Ayurvedic knowledge. She gave us remedies for every small problem from her kitchen, which I was very fond of back then! It left such an impact on me that it led me towards the journey of learning Ayurveda.
Yoga & meditation also became a part of my life when I was in my teenage years. I am glad that I was introduced to these beautiful practises. In my experience, I can say that practising these can help you cure and prevent various health problems.
When I was doing my M.D., I got vast experience with patients, & I experienced that people are keen to take medicines but don't bother to take care of what they eat! During my regular rounds in the hospital, I encountered many patients munching on unhealthy food, which they were not allowed. Due to the lack of awareness, people won't give equal importance to food & think that medicine will resolve their health issues.
There is no doubt that going through Ayurvedic treatment will make you feel healthy within a few days. But, if you are not equally sensible about what you eat, your therapy effects won't last long enough with you.
It is the reason I'm also attempting to raise awareness about a healthy diet and lifestyle based on Ayurvedic principles through @stayayurvedic! Here is a well-known proverb, "When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use. When diet is correct, medicine is of no need."
The beauty of Ayurveda is that it not only focuses on curing the disease but also preventing the disease.Ayurveda emphasises following healthy eating habits and lifestyles based on body type, region, season, and other essential aspects. It is necessary to correct your diet & lifestyle habits to stay healthy and prevent diseases in your life.
If you're new to Ayurveda and wish to start your health journey, I recommend adopting it gradually under the supervision of an Ayurvedic practitioner. Understanding and practising the Ayurvedic lifestyle will not give you temporary relief, but it will keep you healthy and fit for a lifetime. Give it a try, and you will never look back!
